We partnered with the team at Spoor 19, who welcomed us to set up the studio in their storage space. Tourist Lemc - Onrust XXL @ OLT Rivierenhof In September 2024, Tourist Lemc played 4 sold out shows at OLT Rivierenhof in Antwerp, Belgium. Having played the first run of his “Onrust” tour, we got to perform in these shows with the same band. But to take the show to the next level we decided to team up with a dedicated percussionist/drummer to add some extra depth to the show. Together with Thomas Vincke (drummer) and Filip Tanghe (FOH) we reworked the Tourist songs to combine samples (triggered by an Elektron Octatrack MKII this time instead of my laptop/launchpad) with live drums and live percussion. While his music is originally more sample-based and in the tradition of hip-hop music, we now had to translate the songs to a more acoustic and pure version. Together with Wouter Immers (guitars & vocals), Mitya Jansen (saxophone, synth, vocals and percussion) and Esther Coorevits (viola, bass guitar, vocals and percussion) we created an intimate show that created more space for Tourist Lemc’s lyrics. For this we did not go to the studio, but we organized three live sessions with an audience in the ‘Blikfabriek’ in Antwerp. With a band of 10 talented musicians we rehearsed all week before the recording weekend in a very amicable atmosphere that is also very apparent in the album. As a band we did everything ourselves. Everyone contributed to the production in their own way, from the general organization and technical needs to catering and public reception. The result, a full live album, is something we are very proud of and excited about. We set up an XXL version of our band in the Studio of Blikfabriek in Antwerp and rehearsed 1 week in preparation of the recordings of this live album. The album was then recorded in three sessions, with a live crowd listening to the music through headphones. Recordings are done now and currently we’re in the editing phase, where we are choosing the right takes for each song. After editing, mixing will take place and all camera footage will also be processed. They have a straight-forward repertoire with in your face songs that kind of scare you and make you want to dance at the same time. Inspired by 90s grunge we tried to capture the raw and primitive sound they produce, and give it a very live feel. This was used in a booth where people could taste the nuts and let the music guide their senses towards the right sensation.
